How Not to Advertise Yourself as a Assault Defense Lawyer

December 19, 2009 – 1:08 am -

The blogosphere is a unusual entity. Trust it or not, I am not the only Seattle drunk driving attorney running round here on the internet writing with reference to bits and pieces and letting everyone experience what I believe about matter and hoping that an important person reads it. Others are out there. And others are out there across the countryside.

Nevertheless, some of us are not so intelligent when it comes to the spotlight something like a blog can offer to a normal old Seattle driving under the influence defense attorney.

What do I insinuate by that, you ought to be asking? Well, let me notify you. There is this guy running around in Houston, Texas holding himself out as a great drunk driving attorney. And I don’t know him, so perhaps he is in fact good quality. What I do know is that recently he’s been in and out of the weekly for some of his selling methods that are, shall we declare, less than admirable.

To start with, he explicitly admits to bad mouthing other DUI attorneys exclusively in order to get the business of that particular customer.

And second, he admits to leaving constructive reviews of himself on sites like Avvo.com, yahoo.com, and other outlets where reviews are offered.

Even though I don’t in fact care how this guy acts, and I’m confident there are citizens like that in the Seattle district (though I don’t identify of any personally), it isn’t in reality the best way to get business for yourself or encourage yourself, especially in a daily. Why not, you might be asking? Although those two methods may get you business when citizens don’t know that you are doing it, when they do make out that you are doing it, citizens straight away know two things about you, and both are deceitful.

And, not only that, but the judges and prosecutors know about this, destroying your authority in a world where reliability means a lot. I wouldn’t want to be in this guy’s shoes.

And the story doesn’t come to an end there. Since I’m confident this DUI defense attorney was a excellent quote and prized talking about himself, the weekly just kept on asking him inquiries, and he just kept on answering them. One of the most boneheaded moves he made was to chatter about his occupation for his driving under the influence clients, namely that he’d gotten off a lot of people that were in fact drunk driving.

Why is this a wayward thing, you might inquire? Well, if you were one of the citizens he got off, then it most likely wasn’t so bad. But think larger picture. Ponder about all of the citizens that scan this paper and look at this commentary. Think about the possible jurors out there soaking all of this in. Now, if you are representing somebody accused of driving under the influence in this locale, all of the jurors may be believing at least one thing, a lot of DUI defense attorneys get people off that were in fact too drunk to drive – not precisely the mindset I’d like my jurors to have!

Moreover, if any of the jurors go home and delve into this lawyer before they go to bed in between trial days, they will likely stumble across this article. And what is to impede them from assuming this guy is just attempting to get off a new one of his hammered regulars? Opening your mouth can on occasion fail, and here it may have backfired big time.

When my clients choose to go to trial on their Seattle driving under the influence allegation, it is not for the reason that they believe I can get them off when they are culpable. It is because they were not driving under the influence such that they couldn’t securely control a truck and this is the only way they can absolve their honor. When you have scrap science, garbage field sobriety tests, and cops drooling over their next criminal stop, it makes sense that trials will come about. And it makes sense that those trials would come about not to get the guilty off, but to let the innocent go free.

If you are a Seattle DUI defense lawyer and want to market yourself that is fine and dandy. I do it. And I do it a lot. It must be done if you are going to be seen in this sea of criminal lawyers. It is unavoidable. But do it right. Stand on your reputation, encourage other driving under the influence defense attorneys in your area, and don’t be a jackass when talking to the weekly.
